AGRICULTURE DEPARTMENT'S EXHIBIT.
Mr Alex. Macpherson, the Supervisor of Field Experiments for the South Island, has returned from Auckland; where he has been superintending the Agriculture Department's exhibit at the Auckland Exhibition. In spite of the strike the I>epartment had everything in a very forward condition when the Exhibition was opened, and there has: been great praise bestowed upon it for j the fine display that has been made-j The only exhibits that were delayed bo- j cause of the strike were the wool and ' cheese sections, but it is hoped to get these properly fixed up before very long. The growing plots of fodder plants , that are a feature of the Department's ' exhibit have been much admired, and though the soil on which the plots are , j situated is not supposed to be particu- • larly good, yet excellent growth has been made, probably owing to the ample supply of water available. The only forage crops that did not do well were the Egyptian clover, and an Indian plant named, "Guar," which were par- j tin] failures. I
