MEETINGS AND SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

Knox Church Band of Hope gsve an interesting programme at Berwick street hall on Thursday evening to a large and appreciative audience. The following gave items: —Misses Marjorie Nelson, Edna Simpson, Kathleen Muff, Eesie Muff, Gladys Simpson, Anderson, and Sieter Annie, Mrs Langford, and Messrs Bishop and L. Marston. The "Merry Madcaps," a conoert party, commenced their New Brighton season in the P-er Hall on Saturday evening. Tho audience, thought not large, wae «ra appreciative one. Miss Doris Stewart's singing of "A Perfect Day" was encored, as was Mr Basil Hosking's interpretation of "Th« Storm Fiend." Mesers Phil Moran and Jock Gillespie were responsible for the comic numbers. Amongst the concerted items "Fioradora" -was perhaps the best. A meeting of the Executive Committee of the New Brighton Gala was held on Saturday night. Mr Fred Kibblcwhite presided. Messrs C. Bryant, J. Mason, and the secretary were appointed a Programme Committee. The Borough Council is to be written to in tho matter of granting tho control of the foreshore on January 17th, Gala Day, to the committee. Tho secretary was instructed to obtain the necessary permits from the K.Z.A.A.A> and the N.Z.S.A. A vote of thanks v*a3 accorded the Surf Club for its offer to place its pavilion at the disposal of the committee for Gala *-ay, and th© offer was accepted. Mr A. Jf. Chivere, chairman ef the Evening Entertainment Committee, •tated that the programme was well in hand. As the centre poles have now been, removed from the main street, it wae de-cid«-d that the torchlight procession should be held in Sea View road. The use of tho Council's plant and the cervices of the employee* for the purpose of tise eal* are to be applied for as formerly.
