HOME RULE.
ABANDONMENT WORSE THAN"
CONFLICT.
Sm EDWARD GREY ON THE
SITUATION,
(By Cable.—Prea* Association— Copyright) (Received December sth, 9.45 p.nv) LONDON, December 5. Sir Edward Grey, speaking at Bradford, said that the Nationalists would certainly be disappointed if the realisation of their hopes was marred by an internecine conflict. The Liberab did not desire to use force, but the abandonment of H»c2o Rule would be worso, and would plunge Ireland back into the days of coercion. Ho aeked: "Why hurry a settlement with Ulster?" Home Rule would not be enforced until 1915, and the Government would keep tho door open to a settlement by consent until the last moment. If the signs oJ , settlement were less favourable at Leeds than at Ladybaulc, tho responsibility did not belong to Mr Asquith. The other side had ehown no sign that it was prepared to consider a settlement. The only suggestion had been a settlement on federal linos, but that could not be worked out at the eleventh hour and at a moment's notice.
