(By Cable. —Press Association—Copyright.) MELBOURNE, December 5. The State Government was defeated over a proposal in the Redistribution Bill to increase the number of members of the Legislative Assembly from si*stysix to seventy. Tho measure' passed, its second reading on the casting vote of tho Speaker. In Committee, the Leader of the Opposition moved an amendment reducing the number of members, and this, by a combination of the Opposition section and dissatisfied Liberals, was carried by 32 to 2D votes. . Mr Watt immediately secured an adjournment of the House in order to consider the position of his Cabinet. The Assembly meets again to-day, when the Premier will'announce his intentions. It is understood that he intends to seek a dissolution, and, failing that, to resign.
