MR E. C. WILLCOX
Very deep regret was expressed in business circles at the announcement of the death, in his fiftieth year, of Mr Edwin Charles Willcox, of tho staff in Christchurch of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company, which took place on Wednesday. Mr WiJlcox was born at Lyttelton and was the son of one of tho .early settlers of Canterbury. Ho entered the service of the Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company when sixteen years of age and rose from a clerkship to tho position of agent for the company at Lyttelton. Subsequently ho was appointed to tho position of manager of the company's woo], grain and produce department in Christchurchj and conducted that .important portion of tho company's business for many years. He was a man of marked business ability and was very po»u!ar with the clients of the company, and with those engaged in the produce trade in tho city. Mr WiHcox thoroughly understood his business and was straightforward in his dealings. He was an old and a trusted servant of the company. Mr Willcox had been in bad health for some time, but was at bis office as usual on Saturday. He leaves a widow, two daughters and one son. The funeral of Mr Willcox took place at the Linwood cemoterv yesterday, and was largely attended, "the staffs of tho Loan and Mercantile Company in Christchurch and Lyttelton being present. The bearers were Messrs M. Powrie, E.G. Staveloy, E. IT.Just, T. C. Field, Chas. Hobbs aud D. Poison. The burial service was conducted by the Rev. Otho Fitzgerald.
