CASUALTIES.
KNOCKED DOWN BY CAR. AN ELDERLY LADY'S ACCIDENT. An '•■ elderly lady, named Mrs S. A. Denby, who' resides ab Stevens street, opposite the powerhouse, mot with a paiafill accident yesterday afternoon. She made an attempt to cross in front of a traroicar, intending to board it at the- East belt, but was not quick enough, and was struck by the- moving 'car, being knocked down and injured about tho head. The victim of the accident was conveyed to the Square in the car, placed in a cab, and taken to the Hospital. Mrs Denby's injuries were not very serious, and she was reported ': to be progressing well last night. * An elderly lady named Mrs S. A. At the inquest to-day touching ill* death of William Baker, whose dead body was found hanging from a" rafter at .the brick kiln last Monday morning, the Coroner returned a verdict to the effect that deceased had hanged himself while of unsound mind. ' AUCKLAND, December 5. Clarence Lionel Reid, twelve years of agey died yesterday as the result of an accident which he mot with a fortnight ago. He was found lying unconiscious under a tree on his father's farm by hie brother, and it is supposed that he had fallen off the tree. Medical examination showed that he had sustained a compound fracture of ..one arm and one leg andwas suffering from .concussion of the brain. . An. inquest was held this morning. The coroner returned a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence. NELSON, December 5. Charles Holman, an old resident of Lyell.N, was killed instantaneously today by being thrown from a trap and kicked on tho head by the horse. His daughter was also thrown out, but escaped with a shaking.
