ACTION OF THE GOVERNMENT COMMENDED.
(SPECIAL TO "THE PEESS.") WANGANUI, December 5., The present industrial crisis was referred to at a meeting of the Borough Council, when Mr Grainger moved: — "That this Council expresses its satis-, faction with the manner in which the Government has maintained law and order during the trying time that has arisen owing to the strike." Mr Grainger, who, by the way,, is manager of the West Coast Refrigerating Company, said, irr moving- the resolution, that if anyone had seen as he had.the state of anarchy that was existing in Wellington during the early stages of the strike, they would feel as he did that the Government deserved credit for the "way the law had since been upheld. Such a state of affairs as had-existed in Wellington in the "early stages of the strike could '-not be tolerated for a moment. From his knowledge of the dairying industry, he could say that it would have been a record one but for the strike. People had lost a lot of money through the acts of the strikers, .and individuals were going ,to suffer just through. the wanton acts of a few agitators. . ■ . . The resolution .was earned unanimously, and • was telegraphed to the Prime Minister.
