CHRISTCHURCH.
The quarterly meeting of th© Christchurch Licensing . Committee was held at noon yesterday. Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M. (chairman) presided, with him Messrs C. E. Salter and T. C. Field. TRANSFERS. The transfer of the licenses of tho New Zealander Hotel from James Power to D. J. Kelleher (Mr Cassidy), and of the Oxford Hotel from John Mullan to Arthur J. Johnston (Mr Johnston) were granted. ADJOURNED RENEWALS. The adjourned application for renewal of the license of the United Service Hotel was further adjourned for three months. The chairman stated that as a matter of policy the committee refused to allow any person to hold a license of a house in Christchurch, unless he had a vested interest in the conduct of the house. The adjournment in. this case was to allow of the owners, submitting a suitable licensee. The application was renewed- for tho license of the Shades Hotel, the fire escapes being now in a satisfactory state.
