A "SPECIAL'S" OPINION.
TO THE EDITOR OF "THE PRESS." Sir,—l being, despite increasing years and adipose deposit, desirous of doing my small part towards keeping law and order, have enrolled myself as a special constable. When I am alone on my fat oob, I am assailed by cries ot "Scab" from quaint persons of botli sexes, who oftentimes prefix tho only adjective known to Australasia. I need not specify—there is only one. Now, Sir. whilst ruminating after sandwiches and a thought of whisky on aforesaid cob. I wondered if those remarkably astute persans, Tho Workers (in capitals, please), had named us so-from a knowledge, not confined to them entirely, that a scab was the first symptom of the healing of a sore? Did not friend Pliny say many centuries ago: "Oecupet extremum Scabies," which, being purely translated, means "Th© devil take the hindmost!" Therefore. I have no manner of doubt that the Worker will not take Mr Hiram Hunter's advice and turn his face to the wall, as that wonld.be too much in the style of the Scriptural advice of turning the other cheek. Excuse this rot, but when so many fools are knocking about one more or less is neither hero nor there. Mind you, I like to be treated, anyhow—a. bottle of chain-
pagne if possible—but I don't turn my nose up at silent contempt.—Yours, etc., SPESHUL.
