A fairly well attended meeting under the auspices of the Labour Party and representatives of>the unions that are not-striking, practically declared that the proposal of Mr Hughes is impossible at- this stage. The president of tho Trades Councd explained' that the Council was acting in the interests of tha third party. The Council was the proper body to offer mediation. . The -übject was referred to a sub-commit-tee with instructions to report. 'The meeting \ on Sunday was not authorised. Members of several unions and persons of Red Fed. sympathies attempted to dominate the -assembly but failed to do so.-" . '.' •'-. .'
