W. T. YOUNG SENTENCED TO THREE MONTHS*
IMPRISONMENT.
HUNTLY MINERS DECLINE TO RESUME WORK.
STEADY SHIPPING OPERATIONS AT ALL PORTS,
So far as the main points are concerned thero was little alteration yesterday in the strike situation. Work continues to proceed with great briskness at Wellington, Auckland, and Lyttelton, and in this city there are no signs that a strike is on. Communications continue to pass between .Mr W. M. Hughes and tho Wellington Defence Committee, which reiterates its determination not to recognise or deal with th© Federation of Labour. The committee also points out that thero is nothing as to labour conditions on which arbitration can be usefully sought. Th© Trades and Labour Council in Wellington has been considering th© situation, and is entirely adverse to th© Federation of Labour. / - The boycott of the Union Company's boats in Australia, is being maintained by th© organised unions, and there is considered to be a likelihood of new complications at Newcastle. Young, tho president of the Federation of Labour, was sentenced yesterday to three months' imprisonment on ono of the charges arising out of his speeches. Notice of appeal was given, and Young was admitted to bail. The Huntly miners refused to accept the employers' invitation to resume work.
