THE NEW PARLIAMENT BUILDINGS.
. CONTRACT SECURED BY A CHRISTCHURCH FIRM. We understand on good authority that tho contract for the erection of the new Parliament Buildings in Wellington has been secured by a Christchurch firm of contractors— Messrs Hansford, Mills, and Hardie. This is a new firm of young men,'who. have conducted several ventures individually, but who have joined together for the carrying through of this big contract. The contract itself is not yet signed, but it may be completed at the end of this .week, when the contractors return to Wellington from Nelson, where they are at present completing arrangements for Nelson marble, with which the building is to be faced. The base of the structure is to be of Coromandel granite. It may be necessary for the members of the firm* to go North in connexion with'this stone, and in that case the completion of the contract may be delayed for a few days longer.
