ARBITRATION PROPOSAL.
LEADERS ASKED TO USE THEIR INFLUENCE, Mr Hughes received an acknowledgment of his long "cablegram to the Employers' Federation of New. Zealand today, stating that it had been referred to the Employers' Defence Committees throughout tbe Dominion. In an interview, Mr Hughes.saidt— "We are assuming that our proposition wm be accepted In New Zealand, and that will end the trouble here so far as we are concerned." He admitted that he had made a, suggestion to the New South Wales Industrial Commissioner, but was unable to reveal its nature at present. Mr Hughes added that it had been decided to cable to the Hon. W. F. Massey and Sir Joseph Ward asking themi to use their influence to get both parties to accept the arbitration proposal.
The Conference of Unionists resumes its deliberations to-morrow.
