Further communications have passed between Mr W. M. Hughes, tho president of tbe Australian Transport Workers' Union and the Wellington Defence Committee. _Mr Hughes suggests that the whole matter should be referred to Mr Justice Williams, but the Committee points out that there can be no guarantee that the Federation of Labour will respect any agreement. " In the meantime the Sydney watereiders have extended their boycott to all vessels owned by the Union Company, while the Federated Seamen's Union of Australia havo decided to boycott all New Zealand cargo.
Tbo Wellington Trades and Labour Council has decided to call a mass meeting of unionists on Sunday to submit proposals for a settlement. In Dunedin the Seamen's Union decided to call a meeting for to-day, at which, it is understood, it will be proposed that the Union Steam Ship Company be approached with a view to referring the dispute, as between the company and the seamen, to the arbitrament of Mr Justice Williams.
In Wellington, Auckland, and Lytteiton work on tho wharves proceeded as'usual. The Opawa sailed from Wellington for London. ■ The industries on the West Coast are practically at a standstill.
