LARGER ENTRIES. '* BEEF UNCHANGED, FAT LAMBS EASIER. ; (bt oc_t comc-aciAL editor.) There wore larger entries than last week, but the attendance was limited, on account of the wet weather. Fat cattle were irregular, but prices generally were unchanged. Store sheep were in keen demand,' tut fat lambs were in over supply, and prices fell about 2s per head. -Fat sheep wore also easier. Pigs sold at late rates. Store cattle were in good demand. STORE SHEEP. The yarding of store sheep was a very moderate one, although somewhat larger than the previous week, consisting of about 2500, principally shorn wethers, mostly two-tooths, and a pen of shorn ewes with lambs. The shcop wero of the usual class, the only specially good lines being a-couple of pens of two-" tooth wethers. Tho demand for all descriptions was again very strong, all lines finding purchasers at auction at prices which must have been satisfactory to the vendors, values, if anything, showing a slight advance on recent rates*. Quotations are:—--Four-tooth wethers, 16s 4d to 18s Id. Good two-tooth wethers, 14s 6d to 15s Bd. Medium two-tooth wethers, 13s to 14s. . . Two-tooth ewes, T/s 2d. ' Crossbred ewes, with lambs, 125~7d, all counted. The sales included the undermentioned lines:—Ewes—l2s four and sixtooth at 15s lOd, 75 two-tooth nt 17s 2d. Wethers—2o3 two-tooth halfbreds at 14s, 102 two-tooth crossbreds (small), at 14_s Bd, 200 two-tooth halfbreds at 13s, 93 crossbreds at 18s Id, 15 four-tooth at 16s 4d. 131 uwo-tooth at 15s Bd, 398 two-tooths at 13s 9d and 13s lOd, 494 two-tooths at 13s lOd to 14s, 57 at 16s Id. two-tooths mixed, 23 at 14s, ewes and lambs all counted 244 at 12s 7d. : FAT LAMBS. .There was an entry of 528 as against 219 last week. The lambs were of excellent quality, -though the "rain detractod from their, appearance. There was an over-supply .for butchers* purposes, and prices dropped about 2s per head. There was also a larger entry of fat sheep, eight races being occupied as against six last week. The entry was made up of wethers and ewes in nearly equal proportions, several lines of the latter being in the wool. The market was fairly strong in the earlier part, but towards the end, when it wjjs found that supplies were more than sufficient, S rices fell considerably, and sales were ifficult to effect. The range of prices was:—Woolly wethers, 275; woolly ewes, _ft_s to 31s 9a j prime shorn wethers, 21s 6d to 25s 6d; others, 16s to 21s; prime shorn ewes, 20s to 245; extra to _27s 6d; others, 13s 6d to 19s 6d. The yarding in tho fat cattle section totalled 283 head, compared with IJ3 at the sale held a week earlier, 297 on November 19th, and 378 at the preCarnival sale. As customary at Addington, all classes were well represented, the entries including a good proportion of prime beef, useful cattle largely predominating. The sale opened rather irregularly at prices scarcely as firm as a week earlier, but improved towards the close. Beef made 31s 6d to 38s per 1001b. Steers, £7 2s 6d to £11 10s. Extra to £16. Heifers £7 to £9 10s. Extra to £11 sa. Cows, £6 to £10 ss. Tho sales included the following lines:—-For clients, 11 steers at £11 10s to £14 10s; J. An average number of fat calves came forward, and the demand was on the same level as at recent sales, prices ranging from 8s to 60s.STORE CATTLE. There was a representative yarding of store cattle, the bulk being of a very useful class, the young classes being especially good. For the best classes thero was brisk competition, values being unchanged. Fifteen to eighteen-month sorts, £2 Is to £4 ss. Two-year steers, £4 15s to £4 17s 6d. Two-year heifers; £4 2a 6d to £4 7s. -Two and a half year steers, £6 15s. Three-rear heifers, £5 ss. Dry cows, £1 10s to £5 ss. DAIRY COWS. The dairy cows were a poor class, but -as usual, anything good commanded competition. - Prices ranged from £3 to"£9. ' PIGS. There was a medium entry of fat pigs, and the demand was' a. shade better, although there was no quotable advance in values. Choppers, £3 to £4. Heavy baeonors, 57s to 64_9. Lighter sorta, 47s to 555. Extra, to 70s. % These prices being equal to 5d to s_d per lb. Heavy porkers, 41s to 44g. Lighter, 35s to 40s. Equivalent to 61d per lb. Only a small number of store pigs wero penned, and these were largely of an indifferent class. The demand was fair, although few of the buyers showed much keenness. Larse stores, 35s to 40s. Medium, 26s to 345. Small sorts, 18s to 255. Weaners, 14s to 183. CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR SALES. In connection with the Christmas and New Year holidays, a "double" market will be held at the Addington yards on Tuesday, Dccemb_r 23rd, and the market will be re-opened on Wednesday, January 7th.
