BOROUGH COUNCILS.

SPUE-DON. Tho Spreydon Borough Council met last evening. Present—The Mayor (Air G. R. AVhiting), and Crs. S. Hancock. I>. Sykes, W. H. Atkinson, A. Man-lire, E. Hayes. T. Woods, E. H. Clark, and W. H. Winsor. As no reply had been received from the Drainage Board regarding Nos. 1 and 2 drains, it was decided that the Council should meet as a Drainage Committee on Saturday, December 13th, to consider the matter. The Mayor and Cr. Sykes wore appointed to. make further enquiries from thp Valuation Department in connexion with- the proposal to revalue the Borough this year. Inconsequence of the increases in wages of general labourers under the now award, it was decided that the leading hands should ho paid 10s 4d a day as from December Ist. It was decided that unless licensee for heavy vehicles were taken out within fourteen days, proceedings would be taken to enforce payment of the fees. The financial statement showed a debit baltncs on the district fund account of £842 Ss 6d, a credit balance oa the loan account of £3306 2s lOd, and _ debit on the temporary loan account of £1000. It was resolved to sue' for all outstanding rates for the years 1910-11-12-13. Tho Spreydon Burgesses' Association wrote protesting against the appointment of a foreman for the borough, and drawing the Council's attention to the refuse on the. side of the channels left by the sweepers. The letter was received. The Lighting and Electricity Committee recommended that enquiries be made from the City Council if it was pre---pared to supply electricity to the borough for street lighting and residential, purposes at tho same rate as charged to city residents, and what discount it would allow for collecting rates apd charges. Th© Mayor, Cr. Sykes, and the engineer were appointed to wait on the Electric Lighting Committee of the City Council on the matter.
