MEETINGS AND SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
The Knox Church Baud of Hope gave an excellent programme in tho Lecture Hall on Monday, to a good audience, ahe following took part:—Recitations, Cyril ( Knight, Lockhart Waiter, Fred. Muegrove,' Je&si« Musgrove, Edna Simpeon, Mavis Ritchie, B«ei;i» Musgrove, Ngaro Walter, Eseie Muff, Miieio Walter; piano duet, Maurice and Arnold Grimmer;' banjo eolo, Mise Stevenson; piano eolo, Miss M. Steventon, • XeKia Muegrove, Merle Puree, Leslie Marnton; songs, Doris Greer, Kathleen Huff, Mise P. Cote. Mrs Longford gave a very instructive address on "The Wreck." Mr O. E. Frtnklin occupied the chair.
At the monthly meeting of the Waimakariri Harbour Board there were present:— Messrs B. Lis?atnan (chairman), T. Skevington, L. Edwards, F. Chamberlain, W. Mars* den, J. W, Barnard, end J. Wright. The harbourmaster reported the average depth of water on the bar to be "ft fin. The receipts were £34 11« 6d. and thx> overdraft £154 12e 4d. It was decided that the Works Committee have repairs mada to the h&lf-tido wall. It was d-ecjd«*d notice be given the purchaser of the old Kaiapoi hotel to clear ths ground, and that cßera be received to rent it. . The> oomniittoe of the Society for Uie Prevention of Cruelty to Animals met last night, Mr H. P. Bridsro presiding over a good attendance. Mis* L. Rutherford ar.d Mre Hurst were appointed ionortry inspectors. The Socipty'e inspector reported havin? inveetigatod a number of cxsca of alleged cruelty, and warned those resposeible. The report was adopted. The annual meeting of the St. Martina Burgeesee' Association waa held on Monday. Mr J. London presided. The report and balance-sheet were read, a,nd adopted. The election of offioere resulted as follow*:— President, Mr J. LoEgton; vice-presidents, M«esm A. Auderaon, F. "Wilding, G. Bowron, Hon. G. J. Smith, C. S. Howell. Ollivier. Booth, Rose, B. Wilson, J. W. Hunter, and A. W. Buiton; secretary, Mr A. M. Wilson; auditor, Mr Ha>rfrravee; executive, Uesara J. W. Honter, E. Wilson, J. Parsons, with president and eecrctary.
