GIRLS' FRIENDLY SOCIETY.
ANNUAL MEETING-.
The- annual general meeting of the Girls' Friendly Society \v;is held yustorday, the liev. H. U. Mathias presiding. The annual report, which was adopted, expressed r<.grot and sorrow at the resignation 02 the president, Mrs Julius, alter twenty-four years' service. Tho Society iind at present twenty-one branches. The Diocc&ari Council had n-aa>.ed a resolution ''to accept immigrant g;rls into our lodge upcm recommenda i n ' and an arrangement had been made for an associate to meet vessels at Lvtteaon. A proposal from the Government had been accepted, viz., th;it in r< turn fer a subsidy of £150, to be p.iid to the governing body of the G.F.?>.. each lodge in the four centres shall keep two beds for girls assisted by the Government. Negotiations were in progress with the Government to them to send two girls from their assisted passengers direct to the lodge from each arriving immigrant vessel. A registry office tinker the Government Registry Act had been onened at the lodge, and the Tesulte, during the few months it had been at vrorjc wer<» quit« satisfactory.
