REFUSE TO. RESUME WORK
-T_W« SM-X-UTtON TKt.-ORAJ-.l AUCKLAND, December 1. A largely-ttendcd meeting of the Huntly Miners' Union was he d tins morning. The meeting was. called to discuss the letter from of tho Taupiri Coal Mines, Ltd., offering the men the option of res timing work on Thursday morning under the terms of the old award. Several officials of ?L Union addressed the meeting, all advising tho men to stand solid. Ihe striko, they declared, was * universal one, and they urged the men not to think of resuming work unless the Auckland and Wellington strikes were settled simultaneously. Questions wero asked whether the dismissed sixteen men were to be included in the offer made by the company and some manifested a disposition to negotiate with the company in ♦ bit direction. A motion was, however. ?E3 to the effect- that the men would refuse to resume work on Thursday morning, and also that any negotiations for settlement must be made with the United Federationof I.? b °*"*"> with which body the Union is affiliated. It is" understood that there was no demand for a secret ballot:
