COUNTY COUNCILS.
MOUNT HERBERT. The monthly meeting of tho Mount Herbert County Council was attended by Cr. . Orton. Bradley (chairman), A. B. Flcm- "_■ ing, H. Field, L. M. Wilson, J. Hunter, and J. E. Davenport. The Chairman' moved a vote of condolenco with tho widow and family of tlie lato Mr Geo. Laurenson, M.P. All the . conndllors. expressed their regret at tho sudden demise of the late member for tho district.' Tho motion was carried in silence, allmembers standing. A letter was. re-; ceived from the Counties Association, Wellington, regarding rating lease-r hold laud. It was resolved jto. allow tho matter to stand"' over, owing to having no- representative in tho House at present. It was resolved to forward a letter to the Prime Minister to .tho' following effect -—-"That this Council""" heartily approves of the firm stand that the Government has taken with reference to the present industrial trouble, and trusta tliat thoir efforts may bring about a speedy termination of the strike." Cr. Wilson drew the Council's attention to the bad approach to the post office at Port Levy. Cr. Field offered to give the necessary land in-order t_ make a bet-;; ter grade. It was resolved to carry but tho work as'soon as the labour'could'bo obtained. The clerk was instructed to call for tenders for" cocksfoot' growlpg on tho roads, in sections, as m previous years. It was' decided that aU owners lof land having gorse and broom grow** ing on the road fronting their,property be served with notice- to clear without; delay.
