THE INDIAN BELIEF.
IMPERIAL- GOVERNMENT'S ATTITUDE,
DELHI, November -29. ,: The Hon. Gopal Krishna Gokbale, a member of tho Viceroy's Legislative Council, in a speech at Delhi, said-that rightly or wrongly, the universal belief throughout India was that the Imperial Government was far more solicitous' regarding the feelings of, Europeans in South Africa than of its hundreds of millions of Indian subjects. If such a belief were allowed to crow into a settled conviction, it would lead to the gravest results not only ,in India but throughout the Empire. Fortunately the Viceroy's courageous utterance had greatly mitigated the danger, showing to the people of India that their own Government was doing its utmost. '. ■" " ' ' ' "
