LABOUCHERE'S RESOURCE

"Truth" prints the following anecdote of the late Mr Labouchere:— "Labouchero had a dc-sire to go one evening and gamble at Baden, but the last train had loft. There was a special awaiting some Serene Highness, and Labouchere suggested that a carriage should be attached for his use. This suggestion was treated with scorn by the local station master, whereupon Labouchere drafted a telegram to Bismarck, of all people, regretting that ho was unable to come to dine with him as arranged, as a fool of a stationmaster declined to offer him" facilities. In five minutes the waiting-room was filled with anologctie and reverential officials, and Labouchere travelled in great splendour to take his place at the gaming tables in the Kursaal."
