CORINTHIC FIREMEN REFUSE WORK.
TWENTY-EIGHT ARRESTED.

Tho Shaw, Savill liner Corinthic had got through the discharge of her cargo and was preparing to get away for Lyttelton, when just before six o'clock her firemen refused to work.
The police were sent for, and as on their arrival most of the firemen were still obdurate in refusing to work, twenty-seven out of thirty-three men were arrested and escorted by a posse of sixteen police to the Lambton quay station, and later taken to the Terrace gaol. As a result of this incident, the steamer is unable to sail to-night. Later.
Another of the Corinthic's firemen was arrested to-night, making twentyeight. , They are charged with " disobeying the lawful commands of the captain; also with combining to disobey such commands.
It is stated that the men declined to work because a quantity of hemp was loaded by "scab" labour.
