LYTTELTON.
. (Before Messrs J. R. "Webb and L. A. Stringer, J.P.'e) "William Parker was charged that on November 26th, at Christchurch, he did steal three billiard balls, valued at 355, tho property of Harry Richards. Accused pieaded'guilty. Senior Sergeant Ryan stated that the accused had removed the balls from a saloon in Christchurch, and .when ad-, vised by another man to return them, refused to do so." Detectives visited his quarters " on. the ■ Rimutaka, on which vessel he had been employed as a steward, and as a result of a.search, the balls were found planted in another bunk. Accused expressed hie repentance at : the action, which, he said, was duo to drink. The Bench eaid that dnnk was no excuse in tho eyes of the law, and imposed a fine of £2, with the alternative of seven days'imprisonment.
