LIVING WAGE ADVOCATED.
The Council of the Churches, in a manifesto signed by leading clergymen and philanthropists, advocates a living wage because of Christian principles. It states that the signatories believe that the Churches are not exercising anything like the proper influence within thoir power upon social life. While wealth and opportunities for enjoyment are constantly increasing in the upper and middle classes, multitudes are weakened in faculty by lack of proper subsistence, and deprived of hope and happiness in life.
