WAIMATE.
The funeral of the late Mr Frank Bennington, who was choirmaster of the Methodist Church at Waimate, took place yesterday. At the Church service, three hymns were sung, and tho readings and prayers were divided by the Revs. G. F. Stbckwcll and A. S. Morrison. After the benediction, the congregation stood whilst the "Dead March" was played. The funeral procession was led by the choir, who sang several hymns en route to the cemetery, including "Shall We Gather at the River." The choir also sang at tho graveside. The town clerk C. Dash) expects to resume duty on--Monday next after four months' absence through illness At tho annual meeting of the Wai"rnnte County Council yesterday, the I Chairman said ' tho Council had expended on public works during the past year £16,750. During the year the northern ridings were revalued, and the capital value of the entire county at April Ist last stood at £4,809,(J00. The valuations of the I southern ridings are now being proceeded with, and if these advance in the same ratio the capital value of the oountv at April Ist next will bo over £5.0C0,000. Mr Rhodes was unanimously re-elected chairman, and Mr J. Bitchener was re-appointed the council's representative on the Timaru High : School Board.
