SHIPMASTERS 0N OIL-CARRYING VESSELS.
The Imperial Merchant Service Guild have been in communication with several large tank companies, pointing out the hardships involved in tho oil-carrying trade for captains and officers. The stay of these veesele in port is of •such short duration that frequently it is only-a matter of a few hours before,they aro in and out again. One large oil tank steamer, for example, arrived oX Thazriesheven, discharged her cargo,,' and eailed ' again in thirty-six hoars, consequently no officers could obtain leave, and as this sort of thing goes on voyage niter. voyage, the Guild maintain ' that some special arrangement should be made -whereby captains and officers should have leave periodically. In the case' cf one of the large companies this baa been granted, and in future all captains and officers axe to have a minimum of fourteen days' leave on full ■ pay pur annum, exclusive of the time in travelling to and from their'ships to their homes, and if the exigencies at th« service admit, 'it ■will be extended to three weeks.
