COLONIES AND SUPREMACY ON THE SEA.
(By Cable.—"Press Aiaodatkm—Copyright.) LONDON, November 23.
Canon McUlrich, English chaplain at Homburg, addressing a Unionist meeting at Freshwater, declared that in the opinion of most influential Germans Germany meant to have colonies sooner or later. They knew the only way to succeed was by securing •supremacy of the sea.
But for the Kaiser's personal influence, the Canon assured his hearers, Germany would have attacked France during the crisis two years ago, but it was doubtful whether the Kaiser's counsels would prevail at another such crisis. The time was coming, Canon McUrlich concluded, though perhaps not in the present Kaiser's life, when Germany would fight for supremacy on the sea, but she would not make an aggressive move until she was practically certain to come out "top dog."
