PARTY SPLITS IN TWO

A DRAMATIC SCENE

The dispute between Botha and Hortzog has resulted in the party splitting in twain.

An acrimonious discussion at the Congress, followed the Commission's report announcing its failure.

General Christian De Wet declared that the Commission had widened the breach. The Premier must resign.

A motion that the Congress drop the dispute and request the Government to proceed with the administration of the country was carried by 131 votes to 90.

The Orange Frep State voted solidly ; or General Hertzog.

When the result ■ was announced Genorals Hertzog and De Wet, with their followers, quitted the hall. Do Wet turned in tbe doorway and shouted "Adieu!"

The seceders will hold a Congress at Bloemfontein in January, and form an organisation to be styled the National Party.

Subsequently Congress elected both Hertsog and De Wet members of the head committee.

General Botha supported their election, autj urged that they should always keep the doors of the Congress open.
