Six hundred Indians entered the town from the Natal estates, and 166 were arrested. The rest were sent back.
a mass meeting attended by five thousand men resolved to call a general strike. A proposal to postpone the strike for a fortnight was coldly received.
Naidhu, representing Ghandi, made a fiery speech, but counselled those employed in the hospitals and electric light stations to remain at their posts. He was subfequently arrested.
