ORGAN RECITAL.
for Dr. Bradshaw's "Request" recital at His Majesty's Theatre last night, moderately patronised, a good programme was provided. . Bach's Toccato and Fugue in l> minor, played in the best traditional style, headed it worthily, exposing again the fatuity of transferring the grand composition to any other instrument but the organ. By a long step into modernity, SainfcSaens's sinuous "Dying Swan" was introduced next, and Chopin drawn upon in two. numbers, the '".runeral March" and the Prelude in D flat, in the middle part of which latter work the superimposed repeating note, with its often strangely discordant euect, could not be approved. From Wagner's woriis tne "Ride of the Valkyries ' and the, for an organ transcription, rather lengthy introduction to the third act of "Tannhauser," were contributed. The graceful "Humoreske" in U. by Dvorak, d'&vry's "Meditation," and a ularche Solonelle by Mailly were also included in the programme. Undoubtedly the new stops recently added to the organ give more body and brightness to the instrument, which appeared to be in good condition last night.
