SCOTTISH SOCIETY'S TRIBUTE.
Chief James Mackintosh, who presided at a meeting of members and friends of the Scottish Society, referred to the death of the late Mr George Laurenson, M.P., for whom the national flag had been flown at halfmast from the Society's rooms. A motion of sorrow was passed by the members standing with bowed heads and folded arms while Piper Ronald Fraser played "MacCrimman's Lament." The chief moved:—"That there be placed on record in the minutes of the Society the deep sorrow of our members for the death of George Laurenson, who for a term was chief of the Scottish Society of New Zealand, Lyttelton, the parent Society of ours." The Chief eaid that Mr Laureneon took a deep interest in the Scottish Society, and from time to time delivered lecturee before its membera and friends, on Scottish subjects, which were intensely interesting and instructive. He was a thoroughly patriotic Scot, full of affection for the Homeland. His general character had been spoken to widely throughout New Zealand enough that in a word he was a charming personality—'a good man. , " The motion was carried and the Society cent a wreath, composed chiefly of heather from Scotland, and bound with Royal Stuart tartan, to Wellington for the funeral.
At a meeting of the Sumner Rowing Club, reference was made by the chairman to the loss the clnb had sustained by the death of Mr G. Laurenson, M.P., who had been a vice-president since the club was started, , 'and the secretary was instructed to forward a letter of condolence to Mrs Laurenson.
