On Saturday Springston met and defeated Irwell on the latter's ground. Scores:—Springston 171 for 8 wickets (A. H. lumber So not out, G. Taylor 22, C. Murray 21, J. Keast 16), Irwell 94 (J. Coo 25, J. Chamberlain 20, B. Coe 15, J. Heslop 12). For the winners Murray and Hawke secured the wickets, and for Irwell, Morland, B. Coe, and B. Chamberlain bowled best.
A team from the Christen urch Veterans Club journeyed to Lyttelton on Saturday, and played the St. Saviour's Guild Club, the latter winning by. 25 rnris. Scores: Guild 121 (J. ~Page 54 retired, H. Dalley 23, D. Page 20, F. Foster 12); Veterans 96 (Rattray 29, Cook 21, Harris 14, McNae 12). Kempthorne, Dalley, and Foster for Guild, and McNae and Jewell for Veterans, bowled best. The "Star" and "Evening News" boys' clubs commenced a match on Saturday on the Y.M.G.A. ground. "Star" boys, batted first and scored 38.
Tho "News" boys replied with 10 runs for two wickets. Tho match will be continued nest Saturday. A retarn match was played in Hagley Park on Thursday last between the Tni Tapn club and the Veterans, resulting in a win for Tai Tapu. The scores were:—Tai Tapn ,228, Veterans 219. For the winners the most successful batsmen were H. Watson 57 (retired), S. Peryman 50 (retired), F. Gurnsey ■50 (retired), and for the Veterans, Harris 52 (retired). Lawrence 50 (retired), Prebble 3S. Jewell 35. Bowling honours for Tai Tanu went to HHauehey (3 for 63) and S. Peryman (2 for 62), and for the Veterans, Lawrence (3 for GO). Jewell (2 for 49). and Prebble (2 for 75).
