TRAMWAY BOARD.

YESTERDAY'S MEETING:

The Christchurch Tramway Board niet yesterday, when there were preeon "—Messrs : t, J. A. Flesher (chairman), George T. Booth,-A. W. Beaven, S. A; Staplea, D." Sykes, C. M. Gray, H. Pcarce, and Dr. Thacker. ;

Tho Works and Traffic Committee reported that it had accented the tender of Messrs Hrightling and Marriott for the construction-.of the. St. ■- Martin's tramway extension for £1950,: the work to bo completed within* sixteen weeks from commencing operations, dependent on delivery of rails. The regulation, that-apprentice tickets should'not be available after 7 p.m. had been cancoiled, as it was found .that a considerable number of holders of these .tickets occasionally were at work after that hour. The cancellation would take effect as Trom Monday next, November 24th. Although the Board's solicitor had advised that the Board could recover cost of removal of poles where such removal was caused by alterations of roads by the road local authority, the coTiniittee had advised the. City Council that in cases where the removal, was consequent, on the widening of roads traversed by tramway tracks, tho cost of removal would be borne by the Board.

A letter was received from the North New Brighton Burgesses' Association asking that tho running time on the • North New Brighton line should be reduced, that a oar should be put on from New Brighton at 8.20 p.m., and that a later car should be put on on Snnday nights; The letter was referred to the Works and Traffic Committee.

The Woolston Borough Council asked that the 3d section should be extended to Radley Bridge, and. the 3d section .to the tanks.

It was resolveu to reply that "the Board could not agree to the request.

The St. Martins Burgesses' Association wrote asking the Board to make proposals for lighting the district with electricity. ' Mr Gray said that more information was Wanied as to what the requirements war*. The Board would have to d*a! with some resnoDsibta body, not with a number of individual consumers.

It was agreed to refer the-matter to the Works and Traffic .Committee.

Accounts, a mounting' to £4065 lie were passed for payment.
