THE LATE MR G. LAURENSON. M.P.
The following is a copy of a letter, of sympathy forwarded by the Lyttelton Amateur Swimming Club to Mrs G. Laureuson:—"Dear Mrs Laurenson, —Wo have been instructed by the members of the Lyttelton Amateur Swimming Club to write, conveying to you their deepest sympathy, in your late bereavement. We feel that we have every reason to lament your husband's death", and we aro desirous of taking this opportunity of expressing out appreciation of your late- husband, because many of us have been considerably helped by him and havo been able to recognise the great ,and good qualities he undoubtedly possessed. It will indeed be a consolation for you to know that though he has departed to a. better land, the influence of his life here below will ever live to inspire and ennoble those who have come in contact witli it.—We ar«, dear Madam, with deepest sympathy, (Signed) C. R. Boyd (chairman), It. L. Reid (secretary), A. Reed (treasurer)." At a meeting of the Open Port Committee a motion was agreed to asking Mr J. B. Laurenson *to convey to the widow and family of the late Mr Laurenson, M.P., the committee's deep sympathy and its expressions of regret and its condolences with them in their bereavement.
