(Before Mr V. G. Day, S.M.) "R. D. Johnston, for driving a motorcar across tho Ashburton traffic bridge at a speed exceeding the speed limit, was fined 40s and costs. C. Et Bailey (Mr Kennedy), on a similar charge respecting a motorcycle, stated ho was in Christchurch on the day tho offenco wae supposed to have been committed, but his cyclo was in Ashburton. Tho case was dismissed. William Bradshaw pleaded guilty to a similar offence, and was fined 40s and coste.

William Morrow was charged with failing to keep a wator-raco running through his property at Doric, clean. A fine of 40s and costs was imposed. Ivor failing to render personal sorvico under the Defence Act, cases were dealt with as follows:— Charles Thomas Bax and Joseph Boothroyd, convicted and discharged; Felix Reginald Brown. Mathew Craighead an d Thomas Alexander Dobbin, adjourned for three months; Joseph Henry Eade, Joseph JiJliott, Daniel James Fitzgerald, Chas. Stanley Gourdie, Alfred Lcnn'on, Alfred Vincent New, and John Oliver Pringle adjourned until February; Robert John Lindsay., adjourned for one montb.; Walter Leonard Parke, adjourned for a fortnight; Roy Smart, Lionel Thomson and Geo. Stanley Yeatman," adjourned indefinitely; Walter Dalley, adjourned tor one month; Alfred Caldwell did not appear, and was fined 5s and costs. Judgment was given plaintiffs by default, with costs, in the following civil cases:—Hunter and Philips (Mr Acland) v. John McLaughlin, of Dar-neld-r*lßim-£l'l9s"ild; same v. Arthur Frederick Andrews, claim £6 l<3s lid • William Patching (Mr Buchanan) v. Peter Stewart, iolaihi £1 l<fe; same v Arthur Madden]' claim £2 15; Robert Alcorn (Mr Buchanan) v. J. Hickey jun claim £5 los; W. F. Gibson (Mr Buchanan) v. Fred Thomas 'Parkin claim £4 14s 3d. . ......' (Before Messrs W. W. White and R • . Clark, J.P.-'s.) .George Turner (on remand) was charged with being an idle person and with having no lawful visible means of support, and was sentenced to six weeks' imprisonment.
