ALLEGED DEFAMATION
CURATE v. POLICEMAN. JURY DISAGREE. (By Cable.—Prees Association— Copyright.) LONDON, November 21. The Lord Chief Justice, summing up in the libel action brought by Thomas Ghent, curate at St. Andrew's, Stockwell, against Fitzgerald, a Clapham police sergeant, declared that if Ghent was right, then the allegationsagainst him were either wicked fabrications, or the result of a neurotio woman's hallucinations. If the defendant Fitzgerald was right, then Ghent was a wicked, hypocritical liar of the worst description. After twice retiring the jury disagreed, and Fitzgerald "was discharged.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.* 'DUNEDIN, November 21. The Rer. Thomas Ghent, curate of St. Andrew's Church, Stockwell, mentioned in cablegrams with regard to a : libel action, 'was at one time resident in Otago, being for two yeare clergyman at Clyde. Ho made an exchange with a minister in Victoria, and left .the Dominion.
