TRANSPORT TURMOIL
ADVICE TO RAILWAYMAN". Under the heading '"Transport turTacdl" the current issue of the "New
Zealand Railway Review" polishes f-lß Uowmß a " ncfl **>. railwaymen •— ; Hie serious situation among the waterside workers of the Dominion comes very close home to raihvaymen ■who constitute the main body of transport workers in this country. Great care is required on the part" o f our members to .see that they do not involve themselves in a position which would be at variance with statutory obligations and the well-established policy of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants. Railwaymen are in a position of great responsibility today, for water- communication is uncertain, if not impassible, at the time of writing. Thus the whole population depends entirely on the railways for sustenance. We fully realise tliat our members, except in one isolated individual case, have not taken action in connexion with the dispute. Their interests are being closely, jealous v watched by the president, genera! secretary, and executive, and. if any situation arises which calls for action. l £ ro ,s an - v P rov °c?tiou from' within the Department or without, tho-j must not act as individuals. Instant communication with - headquarter* should taKe placo, and our members should be guided by thoso in whose hands the control of our great national organisation is vested. Let us r,re:-orve our undivided strength and" our oood name." "
