(By C»bl«.—Pre*s Association.— Copyright.} LONDON, November 19The steamer Scotsdyke, owned by the Ross, Allan, Johnstone Company, with a cargo of Esparto grass, is on fire m the Channel off St. Catherine's Point, Isle of Wight, and presents a remarkable spectacle from Ventnor. owing to the highly inflammable nature of the cargo. The Scotedyko was on a voyage from North Africa to Sunderland when she causdit (ire off the Isle of Wight.
Several of the crew were hemmed in tho forecastle, and had a marvellous escape. They had to dash through tho flames, and one was badly burned. Captain Grigor remained on tho bridge till it was burnt under him. The engineers stuck to their posts in dense smoke until tho vessel was about to be abandoned. The battleship Iron Duke, in a heavy sea, took off all on board, including the captain's wife, two passengers, and the crew of twenty-four. The steamer is in flames from end to ond, and the hull is being towed to the Isle of "Wight.
