Mr "Wilfred Coulson (organist of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Christchurch), who is in England on leave of absence, has boon nutting jn. a considerable, amount of j=tudy. Ne anticipates leaving for New Zealand in January. Mrs Coulson is with her husband. Mr K. Si&am (Auckland), the Rhodes .scholar of 1910, has entered fully into Oxford life and has made an excellent start by being appointed assistant to tho Merton Professor of English Language and Literature. Mr Sisam's bont was Anglo-Saxon, and lie is one- of the foremost early English scholars at the University ju.st now. Another of tbe New Zealand Rhodes scholars, Mr A. MafDougaU. occupies a similar position in relation to the Professor of English at Queen's University, Belfast. She gave a farewell recital in London ! this week, and of course delighted her audience, including all tho musical critics. It will ho inscribed: —"Tho English Captain Scott, who, when returning from tho South Pole, died bravely with his companions, for his country and for science. March 22nd. 1912. Stayed at the Col dv Lautaret in March, l£oß, in order to prepare for this memorable expedition." Commander Evans has tliis week visited Belgium and Norway. At Antwerp lie attended a reception given by the Geographical Association in his honour, and was appoint**! an honorary j member. The name of Captain Scott is to be given to a street in Antwerp. Accompanied by Mr Gran and Mr Mather, Commander Evans proceeded to Christianiii, where they mere met by representatives of tbe Norwegian Geographical Society. Commander Evans and Mr Gpan subsequently"'hail tho honour of lunching with the King of" Norway. A dinner in their honour was given at the "ißritish Legation. General and Mrs Godloy are at present staying at the St. Petersburg Hotel, Norl-H Audley s%cft. At the end of the welt General Godlay,will go down to AlcWshot for some time, and he. has business at tho. War Office which will koep him going until he leaves for the Continent on November Bih. From Naples General and Mrs Godlcy will go to Egypt,, arid they wil join the Orvioto at Port Said on i>ecember 3rd. From Adelaide, where they aro duo on the j 27th, they will go straight through to j Melbourne, whore General Godley will { confer with General Kirkpatrick, and, leaving Sydney on the last day of the year, he hopes to be in Auckland for the military tournament. General Godley's health is quite restored as a result of the trip.
