Sr William settled in thr> city over twenty years ago, and in the course of an interview during his Lord Mayoralty, ho said: —"1 never dreamt, as I worked at my trade, that r should live to be Lord Mayor of Cardiff, to be shaken by the hand of his Majesty the King, and to have the honour of knighthood conferred upon me.*'
