Acceptances for tho South Canterbury Jockey Club's November Meeting c.0.-*o on Friday. Our Thorpe, who wou tho First Handicap Trot at the Marlborough Meeting yesterday, figures amongst the entrants for the New Brighton Trotting Club's Derby.
The first Derby under the auspices of tho Victoria Turf Club was run in 1855. The prize money. £220. attracted a field of eight, and was won by Roso of May, who took 2mm oOsec to run a milo and a hail.
The ex-New Zealand horseman, H. Cairns, rode Wingarara to victory in the Jumpers' Flat Raco at tho Williamstown Mooting (New South Walt*;), on November 7th. Wingarara started a very hot favourite, but only won by a neck from Ben's Chanco.
F. Yarv. a horseman who a few years ago rode with a fair amount of success at race meetings in the South Island, is at present in Sydney, and on No-veml-er sth he rode Morrygoer into second place in tho Ascot Spring Thousand. <
Nyx by Martian—3lidn_ght, was recently sold in Melbonrne for &0 guinea.;. This filly, who is a half-sister to Golden Morn, was formerly in M. Hobbs's stable ot Riccarton, but raced with little success. Crosbie, who was also trained by Hobbs. changed hands at 150 guineas.,This gelding, who fs by Lupin —Vanguard, can gallop fast, and won a number of events when racing in the Dominion.
