THE NEW SEAMEN'S UNION.
(M-ECIAt TO "THE PRESS.")
AUCKLAND, November 19. In connexion with the formation of a new seamen's union to work under the Arbitration Act, it was stated today that members of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Federated Seamen's Union, registered at Auckland, did not attach much importance to the new body. It was pointed out that there is already a Seamen's Union in Auckland, registered under tho Arbitration Act, and in accordance with the terms of that Act it would not be possible to register another union for this centre, while there is one in existence to which seamen "can conveniently belong." Under the circumstances the present members are doubtful if the Registrar would admit tho new union, unless arrangements have been mado for the suspension of the Act to permit such a proceeding. -
