ODDS AND ENDS.
(SPECIAL TO "TOE PRESS.") WELLINGTON, November 19. The "specials" have evidently been stimulated by the incidents of the night and morning, and the patrols have now
a very alert business air, which, being interpreted, means, even to the dullwitted, that anybody looking for trouble can find plenty. Some of the mounted "specials" have developed the skill of regulars in lightly brushing the fringes of crowds encroaching the roadway in the Square. Tho horses amble close to the kerb. Tho licensees of tho smaller hotels, especially i n the suburbs, complain of dwindling business. Some are particularly dismal, because they dispensed considerable liquor on credit, expecting a speedy end to the striko. and the Licensing Act prevents publicans recovering any debt for liquor consumed on the premises except by boarders. The ballot of the Wellington Typographical Society on the proposal to vote £100 to the wives and children of tho men on strike resulted in its being carried by 218 votes to 67.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION* TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON. November 19. It was reported to-night that the new drivers' union had a membership of I*2o. Tho General Labourers' Union ballot on tho question of joining in a general strike was completed today. The result was a vote of about threo to one against striking.
