THRESHING CONDITIONS.
MEETING IN TIMARTJ.
At a. weU-*.ttended meeting of thresh-ing-mill owners, lield in Timoru on Saturday th© demands of tiho Waimato Industrial Umion of' Workers, as ftpplied to threshing in SoutJh Canterbury, were discussed. It was considered that ifcbese new demands were unreasonable, and thai if tjhey were given effect to, mdU owners could not carry on. Tiho exacting award expired on, Saturday last, and the. mill owners decided to ask for tie renewal of tihis, less tlbo preferenoo clauses contained in it. Tie award fixes the rates of pay at 13s per 1000 for wheat or barley, end 10s per 1000 for oate or Is per hour when men ■are paid by the hour. Hie demand is for Is 3d per hour for tiho feeder, £2 10s .per week for the cook, and Is per hour for the rest, and all "found." The driver ds exempted from this clause. Tiho award provides for food 'being provided on the co-operative system, the employer to provide galley, utensils and fuel at a charge of lSs a week. Tho demand requires ithe. employer to provide all food free of cost, "of wholesome nature and of sufficient quantity, and properly cooked <as may be required."
