WAIMATE HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
ANNUAL SHOW.
The WaimaU> Horticultural Society's annual show was held in the Waimate Drill Hall on Thursday. The show of cut flowers inu the beat yet seen at Waimatc. acd the weather being mild, and the atmosphere rather moist, the dowers kept their ireshneas of >colour ted form throughout the day and afternoon: There was a considerable falling off in pot plants, th? splendid exhibits mauo in former rear* by Mra S. J. Adams a-n<i others beinß cjisjcd. The fruit was not so good in six© or maturity as last year. The vegetable show was very good. One cabbage of tho Enfield Market variety, grown without composite or artificial, near Willow Bridge, by .Mr Vcss, weighed 4OJlb. The Mayor of Winmate (Mr >>. Francis) opened the show, and reviewed the history and progress of this Society for tho last twenty years. He congratulated the committee and its enthusiastic President. Mr K. ilassai!, ar.d efficient secretary, Mr Tomlir.son. on the success of their work. Sir William Steward aleo spoke, expressing the pleasure of himself and Lady Steward at being present. Mr K. HasssH ilinnked oil helpers, not forgetting the Pipe Band, who gftve musical performances outside ! tho show, and the String Band, conducted by the Rev. Father Aubr<?v- wlo gave poriormar.ces insMe the hall.
