THE CHAPMAN-ALEXANDER j MISSION.
NEW ZEALAND NOT IN THE ITINERARY. The arrangements for tho ChapmanAloxander mission aro no-.r df-linitoly tixed. Dr. Wilbur Chapman and .Mr Alexander, with a party of select* d workers, will leavo .tor Australia on Jtlareh 2oth, and -will spend at. k-abt _ix months in a great campaign ol organised evaiigolical work in Australia (reports the Ci'o-*>'"j. 'Alio oommitttc© is at work droning iii> a plan ot the campaign, and no details can >bo announced y«*t. It may be explained that th* terms on which the evangelists como nre as follows :—The committee is responsible only for tho travelling expenses of Dr. Wilbur Chaoman, Mr Alexander, and -Mr Harkness, from America to Australia and: back again. To cover this cost, with incidental expenses of s>iarti„__ the mission, a. sum of JL-100 is to bo raised by subscriptions, and nearly tho whole of this amount has been already contributed. Tlie arrangements ior each mission will bo determined by a local committee, collections will Do mad© in each centre -where a mission. i& conducted, and after local exj>en.ses havo beon defrayed tho balance will be sent in to th© Central Committee. The wholo p Ol-80113 ! cost of the missionaries is to be covered by the surplus over tho actual cost of conducting tho meetings, ■with th© proceeds of the thanksgiving meeting at th© end. Tho committee has no direct responsibility beyond this. Commenting on the visit, the "Outlook"' says:—"W© publish in another column a letter from Dr. Wilbur Chopman in reference to the ChapmanAlexander mission, which originally sip■penrod in the 'Southern Cross.' From this it would be seen that the missioners have abandoned tho idea of visiting Now Zealand, and. propose to confine their labours to tho Commonwealth. Seeing that Dr. Gibb some while back was in communication with Dr. Chapman in regard to conducting missions in New Zealand, something should be done—and done at one© to alter the present arrangements. If the Moderator would convene a meeting of the Special Committee appointed by the Assembly, and get into communication with Church Councils and Ministers' Associations in other centres, thus securing a unanimous invitation to New Zealand for the missioners, something possibly may y©t eventuate. It is evident, however, that prompt action will be necessary, or th© Dominion, may be passed by."
