Advantage was taken of the Timaru Friendly Societies' excursion to Ashburton on Thursday tc play a tennis match between teams reprcsema'tave of the Timaru and Ashburton Lawn Tennis Cubs. Tbe weather waa fine, and the conrta were in splendid order. The match resulted in a win for Timaru by 33 game*, tha scores being:— Ladies' Singles, Timara 45,_ Ashburton 25; Ladies' Doubles. 27 and 11; Men's Singles, 51 and 57; Men's Doubles, 22 and 36; Combined Doubles, 54 and 32. Grand totals— Timaru 1&3. Ashburtoa 161. Tho Hinds and Tinwald Lawn Tennis Clubs played a match at Hinds on Thursday, the home team proving victorious by 79 to 57 same:.
