WEST CHRISTCHURCH CRICKET CLUB.
This following will represent tihe fou nth teii- against Sydenham at Hagley Park:—Archoy, Campbell, Drummond, Early, R. Henderson, Moss, Jones, Pilkington, Rundle, Spence, Denniston. (SPECIAL TO "TTIE FRESS.") DUNEDIN, January 29. The Cricket Association considered Downes's explanation for not travelling to Auckland with the Otago team, and while not satisfied with it, resolved that no further action be taken in consideration of Downes's past service to the province. It was decided to write to Canterbury and ask that tho match here bo played out. Tho Association received a letter from tho New Zealand Council, stating that as a letter received from tho Association ro the Auckland match was practically a charge of unsportsmanlike conduct against the Northern Association, the letter must either bo withdrawn or a definite charge made. Membors pointed out that the letter did not chargo the Aucklanders with being unsportsmanlike. It merely asked that tho rules be so amended that a repetition of the incident would be imnossible. Consideration of the letter was deferred.
The Christchurch Veterans played a match on Wednesday at Hagley Park apainst the Bland Holt Company. Tho Veterans batted first and made 256 (Mann 88. Day 57, Dann 19, StillwelJ 13, Judson 13). Tho Bland Holt Company made 145 CBain 63, Scarlett 26, Class 23, Wallis 13, Hickey 12). For the Veterans Lavery seven for G3, Bloxan/and Turner, and for tho Company Rattray, Solomon and Cass, were the most successful bowlers.
