.Sister Avabamia, representing tho Vedanto, Society of India and America, will hold devotional altar service, and give a symbolic lecture, on Sunday morning, at 11 o'clock, at tho Druids' Hall, 113J "Worcester street. Subject, "Who is Solomon, nnd where is tne Temple?" In tho evening, at seven o'clock, the subject will be, "What is the Cause of Crimes; is it Astrology, Heredity, or Reincarnation?" Both lectures are from a Vedantic standpoint, and are free. Tho Rev. John Urquhart, who is widely known as an expositor and a defender of the Bible, will be visiting Christchurch next week, and purposes giving a series of popular lectures in the Oxford terrace Baptist schoolroom. Mr Urquhart is a vigorous assailant of whot has come to be known as the Higher Criticism of the Scriptures. A public meeting of ratepayers of the Riccarton road district will bo held at tho railway crossing Clarence road, on Monday, February Sth, at 7.30 p.m.. to consider what should' be taken to get th* old 1 crossing ro-ope„ed. Tho train arrangements _in connection with the races at- Riccarton on Thursday and Saturday next appear elsewhere. Tlie annual meeting of the Permanent Investment, and Doan Association will bo held at the Chamber of Commerce on Monday, February Bth, at 4 p.m.
